After submitting your verification request, it's not always obvious what's happening. Google's verification process can take anywhere from a few minutes (phone/email) to a few weeks (postcard or video). Knowing how to read your verification status saves time and prevents you from using an unverified profile that won't perform as expected.
Where to find your verification status
Log in to business.google.com and select your business. The verification status appears near the top of your profile dashboard. You may also see a banner prompting you to complete verification if it's still pending.
On Google Search, you can type your business name and look for the "Own this business?" or "Claimed" indicator in the knowledge panel.
Understanding the status indicators
Verified
Your profile is live, fully managed by you, and appearing in search results. No action needed. You can respond to reviews, update information, and access all features.
Pending
Your verification request has been submitted and is being processed. This is normal after requesting a postcard or submitting a video. Don't make changes to your business name or address while in this state — it resets the process.
Unverified
You haven't completed verification yet, or a previous attempt failed. Your profile exists but is not under your control in Google's eyes. Go to your dashboard and follow the prompts to restart the process.
Suspended
Google has suspended the profile, usually due to a policy violation or suspicious activity. This requires a reinstatement request through Google's support process. Common causes include keyword stuffing in the business name, a virtual office address, or a service-area business listing with a hidden address that was previously shown.
What to do if you're stuck on Pending
- Postcard not arrived after 14 days? Log in and request a new one. Check the address on your profile matches your actual premises precisely.
- Video under review for more than 5 days? Use the "Get help" option in your Business Profile dashboard to contact support.
- Changed your address? This resets verification — you'll need to reverify from the beginning.
Why verification status matters for your review setup
Your Google review link — the URL you programme into NFC cards and QR plaques — is only stable and active once your profile is verified. If your profile is unverified or suspended, customers who tap your card may land on an incomplete or inaccessible page. Always confirm your status is Verified before distributing any physical review prompts.
